We're in Chicago for a visit

5-27-01: Jessica continued to meet her relatives in Chicago. Sunday she was invited over to Aunt Ruth and Uncle Lynn Shuster's house for a brunch in her honor. She met Todd and Kendra and also meets Ann and Art Fox. She spent time with Nonny, Aunt Allie Behrstock, Aunt Nancy and Uncle Jerry Zisook, too. Sunday evening she met the Garfinkle cousins, Aunt Sandy and Uncle Charles Incorvia, and saw Susie Hwang again. Monday she met Great Aunt Lillian Paul, Great Aunt Sydelle Prebish, and then went to a BBQ at Uncle Mike and Aunt Lisa Monoson's house for Memorial Day. Jessica and Mommy took a nap and missed most of the party! On Tuesday, Jessica and Mommy left Nonny's house at 5:45 am with Pop Pop and Nana to drive to Arkansas. Jessica slept 5.5 hours in the first stretch of the trip - all the way to Southern Illinois! She ate when the grown ups ate and then was back in the car for another hour of sleeping. Jessica awoke for more food and then went back to sleep for most of the rest of the trip! Little Rock was fairly quiet for Mommy and Jessica, with a lunchtime visit to Nana's office and mostly hanging out at Nana and Pop Pop's house. Saturday night Nana and Pop Pop threw a little get together at their house to meet their friends which was very fun. New tricks this week included rolling over consistently on her own and amusing herself on her new gymini toy.

Happy Birthday Farhat!

5-20-01: Sunday, Duncan house threw a birthday party for Farhat Quli. Tuesday, Mommy and Jessica traveled on an airplane for the Jessica's first trip away from home. Jessica slept the entire trip. She woke up right before the landing and instead of nursing, decided to suck her thumb for landing. Wednesday, Jessica met Aunt Allie, Ruthie Shuster, Jerry Zisook, Nitza Zisook, and Miriam Zisook. Jessica watched the final episode of Star Trek Voyager with cousins Mike, Lisa and Megan Monoson. Thursday, Pop Pop and Nana Monoson arrived in Chicago and everyone had dinner with Aunt Nancy and Uncle Jerry Zisook. Friday, Jessica dined with Aunt Jill and Uncle Ron Garfinke and Uncle Fred and Aunt Angie Goldboss. Saturday, Daddy arrived in Chicago for Memorial Day weekend and Mommy, Daddy, and Jessica went directly to Chicago for lunch with Dominga and Eduardo Sanchez, Aunt Helen and Uncle George Dietz, Nick Dietz, Rosa Sanchez and the Sanchez's friend Mary Kate. Jessica ended her first week of traveling with dinner at Aunt Nancy and Uncle Jerry Zisook's where Aunt Allie joined the group for dinner too. Jessica became a star thumb sucker this week, rolled over on her own five times and can now grab things held in front of her.

My first Mother's Day

5-13-01: This week started out by celebrating Mother's Day. Daddy and Jessica treated Mommy to a manicure and pedicure in the morning, followed by lunch at Mommy's favorite restaurant (Houston's) with Uncle Dan and finally a Baggott family dinner at Duncan. Jessica got Mommy an amethyst earring and necklace set (Amethyst is Jessica's birthstone.) Thursday, Jessica met Sally Peterson for a dim sum lunch at which she behaved like an angel and even fell asleep in her car seat as Mommy and Sally dined. Friday, Jessica and Mommy showed Mommy's second cousin-in-law, Ami Gerstein, around San Francisco's Marina district for window shopping and lunch. Jessica behaved beautifully again during the lunch date. Saturday, Mommy and Daddy had Kammy and Kowsik Guruswamy over for lunch at Duncan. Kammy was weeks away from giving birth to their first child and they enjoyed playing with baby Jessica. Jessica learned to suck her thumb this week, started babbling for long stretches, and started playing peek-a-boo.

I have a tongue!

5-6-01: Jessica realized this week that she had a tongue and she learned to stick it out at Mommy and Daddy. We laughed very hard at her new trick. Jessica went hiking with Uncle Nick and Aunt Tracy at San Bruno Mountain to start her week off. She fell asleep halfway through the hike while facing forward in her carrier. Uncle Dan made his famous calzones and we had another Baggott family scrabble game that same night. Mommy and Jessica had a fairly quiet week because Mommy had her first plugged milk duct and wanted to avoid an infection. Saturday afternoon, Uncle Dan watched Jessica for the first time that Mom and Dad were both away from baby. Mommy and Daddy attended an infant/child CPR and First Aid course. Jessica refused to take the bottle from Uncle Dan and the three hour session was a little touchy for them both. Daddy was able to give Jessica a little bit of the bottle when we returned, but Jessica just prefers nummies! Saturday night, Jessica attended her first modern dance performance to see Aunt Erin. She slept through most of the performance, but that allowed Mommy to see parts of it.
