Cool pool!
Stinks so bad of heavy chemicals, but had these cool spigots that are creating arcs of water. Two big boys just splashed each other in the hot tub and now Quinn is splashing them HA!

The best ending to a 9 hour drive :)
They are playing an imagination game in the pool right now!
The kids are finally asleep, and I have finished with my reunion work (it is now 12:42 am). Today was a good first day -- not great, but good. The kids did very well in the car, despite a couple difficult technical issues.
Most of the day was spent with the children either listening to an audio book, playing games on the nooks, or in Roxie's case, writing more stories (she hasn't gotten past chapter one at home, so I can't wait to see what 9 hours a day in the car does for her productivity!), but I had plenty of time to listen to tunes and take it all in.
First weird observation was that one of the messages in the state of Nevada on the over the highway digital display signs said, "Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving". How colloquial of the Nevada Department of Transportation.
Another weird observation I had was that many of the towns along the 80 in Nevada (past Winnamucca) enblazon their town initial onto their gorgeous background mountainsides. That seemed so weird to me -- is it town pride? High school prank?
Finally, the last weird thing we saw was the M/M racing car being pulled over Donner Pass. It was encased in a trailer with a window so you could see the race car (which of course looked exactly like the peanut version of the candy), and the guy who was pulling the race car behind an equally tantalizing, candy-coated decoated truck, was hauling ass! He kept up with me for so long, I had to wonder if the actual race car driver was behind the wheel of that rig!
Jess captured some shots (thank goodness because Quinn thought it was Lightening McQueen and we will need to revisit this moment throughout the trip upon demand, daily) but I can't figure out how to upload them from our SLR because I am using a chrome book (no local storage). Will post those pictures soon. More from the road and our adventure tomorrow.

Serious purple mountains majesty
It was so breathtaking from Battle Mountain into Elko at sundown...this picture does not do it justice!
Roxie's owl from the Owl Club in Battle Mountain, NV
Roxie insisted I write her name in cursive on her owl. She war the last to finish her owl due to her attention to detail :)
Phoebe's owl from the Owl Club in Battle Mountain, NV
Phoebe figured out how to make brown from the primary colored crayons immediately and taught Roxie :)
Jess and her owl drawing at the Owl Club
This is where we ate dinner tonight in Battle Mountain, NV. The waiter paid each kid .50 for each picture they let him tape on the wall. They were psyched!
The beetle at the first gas station
Road Trip!
The kids and I begin our road trip this morning. In preparation, Jess made a checklist for Daddy and Uncle Matt to remind herself to email them daily with this list! Aunt Tracy and I were loving it last night, and encouraged me on the spot to scan it. Bon Voyage...

Father's Day - Birthday Hike for George
We wanted to hike Castle Rock State Park, but the parking lots were full (it was a gorgeous day) so we parked at the very last lot on the opposite side of the road and hiked into Indian Rock (still across from the park entrance.)
It was way less crowded and just as nice. Kids had fun just climbing the rocks and hanging out together. Super nice day. Took a much tougher loop on the way back to the car which was way more strenuous than expected. George carried Quinn on his shoulders almost the whole way.

Happy Birthday to one of the best dads I have ever known!

Jake is 7 and George is 44!
Tracy had us over for Jake and George's birthday dinner. It was delicious, and Nick made George a cake that George's Mom made for him every year for his birthday. It was an engineering feat and very tasty...I hear (not gluten free!)

Elizabeth's Class End of Year Potluck
Elizabeth's Class had created themselves into creatures for the parents at the end of the year potluck. The parents were advised to go outside the classroom to look for creatures, and we were told to be quiet so as to not scare the little cuties. I found two hiding in the yew tree. All the creatures were brought out of their hiding places by Ray's drumming and then there was a full-on creature dance that took place. Very exciting.
The potluck was amazing too! Delicious to say the least...
